Flibs 2011 - Fort Lauderdale International boat show

After the optimism generated by a vibrant Monaco event the Yacht industry turned to the American market, which was showcased at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This years show opened it's doors from the 27th til the 31st of October. It is the largest in-water boat show in the world with more than $3 billion worth of boats, yachts, super yachts, electronics, engines and thousands of boating accessories from every major marine manufacturer and boat builder across the globe, as well as exotic cars, clothing and jewelry.

The boat show was so big that they even launched a new MyBoatShow iPhone and Android application to help attendees navigate through the show.

The Boat Show encompasses more than 3 million square feet of space, both on land and in water, and is all connected by the Show’s Transportation Network of water taxis, riverboats and bus shuttles.

You could see FAST boats

and even FASTER cars.

But there were also BIG cars

and even BIGGER boats!

The main attraction of the show however were the new Jetlev-Flyer. Their motto is Stop dreaming, start flying. You might say what is Jetlev! Take a look at the video taken on the show and you will be amazed.

And the price? 100.000 EUR, but who said that the dreams are cheap.

Since it is an American event it comes by no surprise that the Mayor of Fort Lauderdale compared the Boat show the the Super Bowl: "To the city of Fort Lauderdale, this boat show is our Super Bowl".

Compared to the Monaco boat show the atmosphere in Florida was rather more muted. Maybe one of the reasons was also the two day tropical storm which forced prospective buyers away from the docks and the yachts on display.

But the perfect Fort Lauderdale surroundings (also know as Venice of America) round up the show perfectly and made it worth the visit, as you can see in the video bellow.
